Education Kit

The Powell County Museum & Arts Foundation was established in 1979. The original purpose of the foundation was to preserve and protect the Old Montana Prison for its historical value.  The Foundation operates several museums to preserve historical information and to educate the public.

We have a kit available to make your visit to our museums more enjoyable and educational. Available as part of the kit are several lesson plan worksheets. These are designed to help educate students about the Old Montana Prison. Feel free to use these materials, since they have been crated for educational use at no charge. Click on the PDF files below to download

The answers to the lessons can be found from reading the Self Guided Tour Book and essays provided, with the exception of the “Scavenger Hunt”.

The Powell County Museum & Arts Foundation operates the Old Montana Prison and Montana Auto Museums year round. We are happy to accommodate educators with visits and reservations. Schools wishing to bring a group of students to the museum for a special visit are always welcome. This is a wonderful way for students to see and experience Montana History. We will be happy to arrange a guided tour of the Old Montana Prison Museum for your group, please contact us at least one week ahead of time with the following information:

  • Number of students and adults
  • Date and time of visit
  • Grade level

We do require 1 chaperone for every 10 students.
